Philosophy
Woodland Haven provides a warm, nurturing, and exceptional care environment that is designed to feel like "home away from home" for families and our staff. Our highly trained and certified Early Childhood Education staff play a key role in the emotional and educational development of your child. Through quality pay and health benefits for all of our staff, we strive to ensure that they are treated like family, so they can focus on nurturing your child. Our teachers are given the creative flexibility to design their own teaching methods to carry out the core curriculum. This flexibility will allow teachers to create lesson plans designed for the needs of their children and their individual interests.
Our focus is on children's social and emotional development in a setting that emphasizes nurturing relationships within a culturally diverse school community. Through a mindfully designed curriculum and skillful teaching, children are
given many opportunities to develop early language and literacy skills, build on math
concepts, explore science and nature and learn social and emotional skills that will
contribute to their success in later schooling.
Our highly qualified lead teachers and primary teachers provide an integrated
curriculum that fosters developmentally-appropriate experiences for each age and
stage. We consider the full range of children’s cognitive, motor, language, and social-
emotional development. We value the diversity of our community and work in
partnership with families to support their child’s positive identity and academic success.
Maintaining balanced classrooms with low teacher to child ratios benefits both the
children and the adult educators in our programs.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Statement
At Woodland Haven, we strive to ensure that all children receive loving and reliable childcare. We recognize that all families are impacted by reliable childcare with quality education in our community and our goal is to help as many families as possible. We are committed to reserving 20% of our childcare positions to low-income families to ensure greater equity for accessible quality care to all children in our community, regardless of their gender, religion or race. We intentionally recruit board members and employees that share our commitment to a business that encompasses a DEIA environment and represents these values. We will annually review and update our program and teaching materials to ensure that we are intentionally representing the families that we serve while holding the principles and values of providing a DEIA environment.

Health & Safety
Your child's health and safety is our highest priority. Through repeated disinfecting/cleaning of “high-touch” surfaces throughout the school day, frequent thorough hand-washing by staff and students, and use of electrostatic disinfectant sprayers on all hard surface, we strive to maintain a clean, "germ-free" environment. Our school App, Bright Wheel, has health reporting system that assists in ensuring all staff and students who are feeling ill are at home until they recover. We are following Yolo County's Health Department Guidelines for Covid protocols, including mask mandates, and will update parents as needed. At this time, masks are not required but are welcomed if parent's/children would like to wear them.
Our 1970's buildings have been renovated for your children's safety. We have brand new fire alarm systems in both buildings and multiple smoke detectors throughout our facility, as well as new roofs, floors and renovated bathrooms. Our buildings are locked to the public at all times, however, parents are given an access code, so they are able to come and go as they please. This code will be changed as needed and parents will be updated with the new code information. Our school playground is fenced in by a large steel gate that is also locked to the public. Our new playground equipment is safe and age appropriate. Our edible learning gardens, as well as our school landscaping, are full of kid friendly, non-harmful, plants. We welcome all questions, concerns and comments regarding your child's safety in our facility.
